This post is a little bit overdue…but here it is at last, the story of Carly and Sean's wedding at El Questro Station in the Kimberley, with plenty of photos!
We love photographing destination weddings, as we have so many new places to explore. When we travel in WA, we are usually travelling south, so I was just a little bit excited when Carly and Sean booked us to photograph their wedding in May up north!
Carly and Sean fell in love with El Questro station and the Wilderness Park when they were travelling through, so when they got engaged they decided it was the perfect place to hold their wedding with their closest family and friends…and a photographer to help them remember it all
We flew up the day before the wedding and then made our way to The Station, and I was getting excited by the scenery out the car window just leaving Kununurra, let alone what was coming up.
All their guests were staying at The Station for the weekend, so they could all enjoy what an amazing place it is up there. The bungalows are awesome, ours was right on the Pentecost River, and you had a view on the balcony right out to the river trickling through and the bush beyond. So Saturday morning arrived and it was the wedding day!
The ceremony location had been kept as a secret from their guests, the only hint was to not wear heels for the ladies. El Questro provided some 4×4 vehicles to transport the guests up to Pigeon Hole Lookout, and wow what a lookout!! There were panoramic views everywhere. Which then came in handy for Carly's dramatic arrival…in a helicopter! They flew in from the riverbed below to the surprise of everyone, who had been keeping an eye on the track to see when her 4WD would arrive.
As you can see from the photos below, it was a stunning ceremony location.
So after the ceremony it was time for some photos in this amazing location…luckily there was enough room in the chopper for me as well, we were then able to fly down to the deserted riverbed, where the only footprints were those left by some crocodiles. We kind of wanted to have some crocs swimming in the background of the photos, but then also felt a bit safer not being able to see any around! Our pilot Steve was great in flying around for the best view when we left them stranded in the middle of nowhere to get some aerial photos.
The colours in the Kimberley are so vivid, especially when it getting close to sun set, I could have stayed there for hours! We then flew back to The Station to collect the bridal party and my hubby/photographic assistant for a few more photos as the sun set over the boab trees.
We had the best time at this wedding, besides my own it is my favourite wedding that I've had the privilage to attend. Stay tuned for some more posts on our time in the Kimberley, as we covered the whole weekend up at El Questro and also took the opportunity to add some more landscape photographs to our fine art folio.
Thank you to Carly and Sean for booking us to cover your wedding, and also thank you to Dale and the team up at El Questro for creating such a great event. I didn't expect to fall in love with the place as much as I have, and we can't wait for the next time we can come back…and I really want to buy a Pajero so we can do more river crossings and 4WD tracks!!
